About the Role

This position is entry level for someone just getting into survey or with minimal experience. We will train you, provide education through Austin Community College if desired, and treat you like a professional. • The instrument operator uses a variety of surveying instruments to support a survey crew in their daily operations
• Assists in the completion of field surveys under the supervision of a Crew Chief
• Responsible for the operation, checking and basic field adjustments of survey equipment. E.g. tripods, tribrachs, levels, total stations, GNSS receivers
• Utilize survey controllers and software to collect geospatial data and perform survey computations
• Read and interpret various types of maps and plans
• Complete neat and orderly field notes for survey operations with supervision from Crew Chief
• Keeps Crew Chief informed of problems and progress
• Load and unload trucks with equipment and supplies
• Clean and maintain survey equipment, tools and vehicle
• Follow company safety procedures for survey operations

What You Bring

  • Willingness to work hard, learn, and enjoy the outdoors

  • No Industry Experience Required (pay will be commensurate with experience)

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Possession of a valid, current driver’s license

  • Nice to have: Knowledgeable in the principles and performance of basic types of surveys, survey computations, and field operations

  • Ability to work continually outside across all types of terrain (we don't work in the rain and we mostly work on roadways, in fields, and through the woods)

  • Ability to work out of town approximately 10% of the time (we ask for volunteers first, then assign people if needed, extra daily bonus and overtime when traveling)
